Richard Green’s “Age of Dreams” belongs to the latter, using piano and strings to revisit the limitless imagination of childhood and the sense of possibility that can become harder to hold onto with age. Released on December 22, 2024, “Age of Dreams” forms part of Green’s ambitious trilogy, his most significant artistic undertaking to date. The composition appears on “First Light,” an EP representing childhood within a broader three-part narrative exploring the different stages of human life: childhood, adulthood, and legacy. Although “First Light” represents the beginning of the story, it was the final EP released in the trilogy, giving the project an intriguing sense of completion as well as a new starting point. Based in Milan and with 11 years spent developing his musical education and experience in London, Green has established himself as a multi-genre composer unafraid to move between contrasting styles. From his earlier electronic work to his neoclassical compositions, his catalogue demonstrates a clear interest in exploring different musical identities.

“Age of Dreams,” however, reveals a particularly refined side of his artistic vision. The composition is built around Green’s longstanding fascination with the sound of strings. Rather than simply recreating traditional classical music, he combines piano and string quartet arrangements with elements drawn from contemporary pop, indie, and blues. The result is a piece that respects classical instrumentation while maintaining a modern emotional sensibility. A major part of the track’s character comes from the musicians Green selected to bring his compositions to life. Renowned Italian pianist Irene Veneziano performs on piano, while the accomplished Archimia string quartet provides the instrumental foundation. Green composed the music himself, having written the pieces during his years in London, before the project was recorded at Studio Elfo near Piacenza, Italy.
