ReeToxA return with their latest single “Humbug,” a fiery rock track that channels the grit and swagger of the 1970s while speaking directly to the trials of modern romance. Now available on all streaming platforms, YouTube, and iHeartRadio, the single has been building momentum at open mics and live shows, proving to be a crowd favorite thanks to its raw energy and relatable story. The inspiration behind “Humbug” is as unconventional as the song itself. Frontman Jason McKee had grown weary of dating apps after repeated disappointments and was on the verge of giving up hope. Then he crossed paths with a gifted, kindhearted musician who sparked an unexpected crush.

The feelings weren’t returned, but the encounter stayed with him. Later, while running through scales in the rehearsal studio, Jason stumbled over a minor pentatonic passage and accidentally struck on a riff that would shape the track. Within less than a minute, the song’s foundation had taken form, leaving him stunned at how naturally it came together. When guitarist James Ryan stepped in, he elevated that original idea even further—stretching it beyond earthbound riffs into something soaring and cosmic, before grounding it back again. The interplay between Jason’s vision and James’s guitar work gives “Humbug” its signature character: a mix of unrestrained energy and carefully anchored rhythm.

Instrumentally, the single delivers everything rock fans crave. The guitars blaze with urgency, the bass and drums lock tightly into a propulsive groove, and over it all, Jason’s vocals carry both grit and yearning. His performance balances frustration with optimism, painting a picture of someone who’s been bruised by love but still dares to hope. That emotional core is what makes “Humbug” stick—it’s not just a riff-driven rocker, it’s a song about the human need for connection. What makes “Humbug” stand out is the way it fuses nostalgia with relevance. It draws on the high-voltage spirit of the 70s while staying firmly grounded in today’s struggles with love and dating. The result is a track that feels classic and fresh all at once. Whether blasting through headphones or shaking the walls of a live venue, “Humbug” is the kind of song that doesn’t just play—it hits, hard.
