ReeToxA’s “Pines Salad” is a bold, flavor-packed debut that lives up to its name—a fresh, eclectic mix of rock ingredients that come together in a way that feels both nostalgic and excitingly new. Released on March 31, 2025, the album is the brainchild of Melbourne-based artist Jason McKee, who blends three decades of songwriting into a 14-track sonic journey that’s as personal as it is powerful. From the first track, “Pines Salad” serves up a gritty ’90s energy reminiscent of early Pearl Jam, with emotionally raw vocals and guitar work that cuts deep without overindulging in noise.

Yet, just as you settle into the alt-rock grooves, modern pop-rock sensibilities à la Olivia Rodrigo peek through—slick hooks, vulnerable lyrics, and a refreshing clarity in production. McKee’s songwriting, shaped since his teenage years in 1995, carries the emotional weight of experience.

You can feel the years behind each lyric and riff, especially knowing that McKee once played a demo for Jeff Buckley—a fact that adds an intriguing historical layer to his story.

The Aussie twist comes through in the dry wit, melodic phrasing, and a grounded authenticity that could only come from Naarm/Melbourne, a city steeped in live music culture.Produced by Simon Moro, the album sounds polished but never sterile. Kit Riley’s melodic bass lines, James Ryan’s tasteful guitar textures, and Peter Marin’s rock-solid drumming elevate McKee’s vision into something cohesive and compelling.
