Detroit-born and West Coast-based, Odelet continues to blaze her own trail through the music and visual art worlds with her latest release, Raindance. Arriving as her fourth (and technically fifth) studio album, Raindance is a stunning ten-track journey that dissolves genre lines and reshapes them in Odelet’s signature dreamlike hue—what she aptly refers to as Surrealist R&B. Released under her own production company Everlasting Tape, the album is joined by a companion piece, Raindance In Dub—a 1970s-inspired reimagining crafted in collaboration with legendary engineer Larry Crane.
From the opening notes of Raindance, it becomes clear this is more than just an album—it’s a living, breathing atmosphere.
Odelet, as ever, performs nearly all the instrumentation herself, weaving together soundscapes that pull from soul, ambient, folk, and psych-pop traditions. Each track drips with intention and mood, like rainfall carving stories into stone. Her vocals are intimate yet expansive—quietly commanding, soaked in emotion, and utterly transportive. The analog mix by Larry Crane, known for his work with Elliott Smith and as the founder of Tape Op Magazine and Jackpot! Studios, brings a warmth and dimension to the project that beautifully balances Odelet’s ethereal production with organic sonic weight. This collaboration expands even further on Raindance In Dub, where each track is stripped down and stretched out into echoing corridors of rhythm and reflection—equal parts homage and reinvention.
But Raindance is only one part of Odelet’s vast creative outpouring in 2025. From the dramatic revival of The Angels Album to the genre-bending journey of Pisces Pie, this year alone will see her release six albums, each further expanding her surrealist vision. Her multidisciplinary art series Everlasting Tape, which re-scores historical film footage with original compositions, continues to garner international acclaim, underlining her rare ability to connect sound, story, and soul.
With Raindance, Odelet doesn’t just make music—she creates worlds. It’s a deeply textured and fiercely independent project that rewards immersion. Let it pour over you. Let it stay.
